They have quadrupled since the 1960s. They affect one million people in Europe and between 12,000 and 16,000 in Switzerland. They're known as IBDs, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are the most common forms. Food additives are suspected of playing a key role in this global epidemic.
