When men make careers in professions that are still predominantly female, they very quickly rise to positions of responsibility. This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as the "glass escalator", as opposed to the famous "glass ceiling" faced by women pursuing careers in menʹs professions. How can this be explained? And why are career choices still so influenced by gender?
