Bereavement at work

Sometimes, colleagues are affected by bereavement. In Switzerland, 40% of special leave at work is granted following a death. When someone who works with us is bereaved, what can we say and what can we do? There are, of course, legal aspects, an entitlement to one or more days off for the funeral. But is this enough? How can we be adequate without being too intrusive?
