The gigantopithecus, 3 meters tall, cʹest the height of an elephant and 200 to 300 kg. The first traces of this ape were discovered in 1930, at the home of a Hong Kong apothecary. There, a German paleontologist discovered a tooth 3 to 4 times larger than that of any other great ape. This ape became extinct just over 200,000 years ago, but no one knew why. A new study just published in Nature sheds light on this mystery.
