VELOCE project: high-precision measurements to unravel the mysteries of Cepheids

Through the VELOCE project, scientists at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) have accurately measured the velocity of cepheids, the giant stars that measure the size of the universe. Over a period of 10 years, they collected more than 18,000 measurements of the pulsation of these cepheids, the most precise ever made, using highly sophisticated instruments.
