A step closer to data storage on a single atom

At a time when we need to store digital data more than ever, conventional hard disks and magnetic media are reaching their limits. Scientists at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) are working on the question of single-atom magnets, and have just taken an important step towards the stability of this process.
