Veganism, towards a new religion?

Vegans do without any animal products, both on their plates and in their wardrobes. In addition to strict dietary rules, vegans adopt a global lifestyle ethic. But is this a religious or even sectarian movement? Is the entry into veganism comparable to a conversion?
