The precursors of 18th-century religious history

Since the discovery of America and other territories in the East, new universes have entered the field of Western consciousness and, by the same token, the missionary agenda. Among them were some who conducted genuine studies to understand the religious practices of the civilizations discovered, postulating however the superiority, or even exclusivity, of Christianity.
