No longer making ends meet, Italians are having fewer and fewer children

Italy's birth rate hit a record low in 2019 at 1.29 children per woman, compared with 1.5 for Switzerland and 1.6 on average across Europe. In just over a decade, the number of newborns has been divided by four.
