Disrupted sleep increases cardiovascular risk: this is a fact that is already well documented in the scientific community. A study published in the lʹEuropean Heart Journal has gone much further in lʹexploring this association, and has identified five key elements of sleep linked to the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke. These are sleep duration, chronotype (whether one is a morning or evening sleeper), frequency of insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness and sleep apnea.
