Electrostimulation rehabilitation: a bill that hurts

A listener rented an electrostimulator, on his doctor's prescription, to treat a neurological problem in his leg. At the end of the treatment, surprise: a bill for 524 francs, 460 of which he had to pay! The company charges a rental price well above the amount reimbursed by basic insurance. Is this normal?
