Bridges and tunnels: the geopolitics of major works?

On June 1, 2016, Switzerland inaugurated the Gotthard rail tunnel, the longest model of its kind at 57 km long! A tunnel with obvious political implications, bringing northern and southern Europe closer together. Elsewhere in the world, other titanic projects are seeing the light of day with this same geopolitical characteristic.
