Like Italians in Switzerland, freedom in Switzerland and elsewhere

Millions of Italians emigrated to Switzerland, first at the end of the 19th century, then in a second movement after the Second World War. They came to work, often under very difficult conditions. They were not welcome, even though Switzerland needed them for its major construction projects, such as the Gotthard tunnel, to build its modernity. In fact, in 2023, Italians were still the largest foreign population in Switzerland.
