150 years of Jewish emancipation in Switzerland

Between integration and anti-Semitism, a look back at a paradoxical history 150 years ago, in 1866, a revision of the Federal Constitution recognized equal rights for the Jews of Switzerland, who until then had been exposed to strong discrimination. With the granting of equal status to Jews, Judaism was henceforth understood in terms of adherence to a set of rituals and beliefs, and no longer as a national or political identification.
