Who was Viollet-le-Duc?

Viollet-le-Duc is best known for renovating Notre-Dame de Paris. But he also worked on the restoration of Lausanne Cathedral, that of the city of Carcassonne or the reconstruction of the Château de Pierrefonds. He has also worked on Mont-Blanc and the Statue of Liberty.
