Switzerland-Algeria: Swiss mediation on the road to peace

Switzerland becomes involved in the negotiations between France and the Algerian FLN, and in particular welcomes the spokesmen of the independence movement. During the Algerian War, Max Petitpierre was President of the Federal Council on two occasions, and was particularly committed to Switzerland's position of "active neutrality" in foreign policy. He was a decisive link in the organization of these peace agreements.
