Swiss shelters: Hubert Aquin

Légende

It sounds like a story out of a spy novel: in the autumn of 1966, Quebec novelist Hubert Aquin is expelled from Switzerland. He was told there were too many foreigners in the country. Having arrived a few months earlier to settle permanently in Switzerland, the man has a past that could upset the authorities: a former Quebec independence activist who went underground. Tried in his own country, interned for a time in a psychiatric hospital, he settled in Lausanne in the spring of 1966 to live and write.
