Student societies: young people in search of tradition?

Founded for the most part in the 19th century, student societies are still active at Swiss universities. Promoting patriotism, camaraderie and science, they are also places where unbreakable friendships are forged through the excesses of drinking and carting. Who are the members, and what do they come for? Alcoholic parties? Shared interests and values?
