Traditional evening gatherings, which once brought together a household or the inhabitants of a neighborhood in a private space, often included a time dedicated to storytelling. Often passed down from generation to generation, these tales soon fascinated linguists and early folklorists, who saw them as the remnants of a declining ancestral culture.
