Aqueducts by the dozen, central heating systems for thermal baths, vertiginous vaults - the Romans were great engineers. On the other hand, it's hard to attribute fundamental scientific discoveries to them. Such discoveries were often made by scholars from conquered provinces such as Greece and Egypt.
