Really alone in the universe?

We are the first generation in mankindʹs history to have the technological tools that could prove the existence of extraterrestrial life. While the expensive conquest of space would be content with identifying a bacterial fossil billions of kilometers away, the dream of the most optimistic is to make contact with a non-terrestrial otherness outside the solar system.
