Me, a tourist? No way!

Tourist! It's almost an insult. Whether we're off for a weekend in our local area or a far-flung expedition, we'd rather say we're traveling than perceive ourselves as tourists. We'd like to be something other than the travel fool, to escape the class contempt that condemns mass tourism, and we forget that the authenticity so sought after is steeped in artifice.
