A study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reveals that the German cockroach (Blattella germanica) originated in southern Asia and not Germany, as previously believed. This discovery, based on the genomic analysis of 281 specimens from 17 different countries, shows how this insect has followed humans and their activities through the centuries to spread across the entire globe.
