A garden in the Amazon

Far from contrasting the wild forest with the cultivated garden, Amazonian Indians have an entirely different relationship with plants. Practicing slash-and-burn horticulture, they open a garden by clearing a plot of forest. Then, when the soil is exhausted, they abandon it to open another one further on.
