Excavations at Pompeii

At Pompeii, everything changed in 79 AD with the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The sunken city disappeared and was only truly rediscovered in the 17th century. The site, which retains a special place in history, has been the subject of numerous archaeological excavations ever since.
