AI to decipher scrolls charred by the eruption of Vesuvius

Three researchers have won a $700,000 prize for using artificial intelligence to decipher a small portion of nearly 2,000-year-old manuscript scrolls severely damaged by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.
