Are public swimming pools outdated?

The entry fee is modest, and the equipment, maintenance and wear and tear are a priori low in view of the thousands of lengths completed each year by users. And the variety of equipment on offer and the low investment required for access (a swimsuit or even a swimming cap) make it a popular and egalitarian place. However, this model of bathing for all is now under threat.
