Algorithms and us

As soon as we use the internet, we interact directly with algorithms. These algorithms are standardized, which implies that they make decisions: choices of data, methods or parameters. These choices guide us and are optimized to match us. What values are at stake in these choices? What impact do they have on our society and our lives?
