25 years ago: the end of the USSR

The last leader of the Soviet Empire, Mikhail Gorbachev, resigned on December 25, 1991. This paved the way for a transitional period of hardship and disillusionment for the people of the Eastern Bloc. These populations sometimes say they regret the fall of the USSR.
