When the owl scares off... the vole

On full-moon nights, the color of white barn owls doesn't put them at a disadvantage during their hunt - on the contrary. Voles, on which this nocturnal raptor feeds, are wary of light and bright colors. One study shows that when brown owls surprise voles, white owls freeze the rodents to capture them.
