Is tourism bad?

Tourism - especially other people's tourism - is often criticized. It's said to destroy nature, deepen inequalities, and make places and cultures disappear under the pretext of discovering them. But is tourism necessarily bad? Isnʹt it also motivated by a sincere desire to get to know the other and the otherworldly?
