Spiritual abuse

Spiritual abuse is often at the root of sexual abuse in religious circles. A charismatic leader, with religious power, will pass off his will as God's, demonize the outside world and regard the victim's desire for autonomy as sinful. Under this grip, the victim can no longer discern what is good or bad for her. Do the churches have the means to guard against such abuses?
