Total ankle arthroplasty: a rare operation

Some 300 ankle prostheses are fitted every year in Switzerland. That's 100 times less than for hip replacements. Yet this is a revolution! Until about fifteen years ago, the only reliable intervention for an ankle affected by osteoarthritis was permanent locking of the joint.
