There would have been no Reformation without humanism

If Erasmus hadn't had the New Testament published in Greek, neither Zwingli nor Luther would have been able to complete their vernacular Bible translations. Erasmus and Luther were also very close in their criticism of the Church of their day. Yet they would eventually fall out. Erasmus, unlike Luther, fought to maintain the unity of the Church.
