Predictions of declining terrestrial and marine species diversity in tropical areas may be less severe than expected, according to a new study by Ifremer and the University of Lausanne. The researchers suggest a 39% reduction in diversity by 2041-2060, compared with the 54% estimated by traditional models. This proportion remains alarming, however, and underlines the urgency of measures to mitigate the impacts of climate change on biodiversity.
