Perinatal depression may have more serious consequences than previously thought

According to a study published in the renowned British Medical Journal, the risk of maternal death within 18 years of childbirth is 6 times higher in women who have experienced perinatal depression (post partum or ante partum) than in women who have not. The epidemiological study was carried out in Sweden on 860,000 mothers, 86,000 of whom experienced perinatal depression.
