A Nobel that gives our eyes the blues

The 2014 Nobel Prize in Physics has rewarded the invention of the blue light-emitting diode. Indispensable to LEDs, these low-energy bulbs are ubiquitous in our daily lives. They diffuse a blue light that is not, however, without risk to our retina.
