Lʹamour of old buildings

Do you love old stones, houses with character, alive and carrying their history? This seems to be a widespread trend, but how do we explain this penchant for old buildings? Why is it that only old buildings seem to have a "soul" and are able to evoke emotion? And why do foundations raise funds to preserve old monuments?
