GDF15, which acts directly on the brainstem, is involved in the process of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, including its most severe form: lʹhyperemesis gravidarum. A condition that would put 1-3% of pregnant women through hell, causing weight loss and intense dehydration that can lead to hospitalization of expectant mothers.
