Huguenots, embarrassing refugees

The French Wars of Religion led to the exodus of almost 300,000 Huguenots. Some of them passed through the former Confederation, but only around 20,000 settled there. The poor economic situation of the cantons partly explains the difficulty these French Reformed refugees would encounter in settling.
