80 years ago, chemist Albert Hofmann set off on his bicycle for a wild ride through Basel, voluntarily impregnated and surprised by the substance he had managed to synthesize a few years earlier: LSD. Little did he know then that this psychedelic drug, capable of alleviating certain mental illnesses, was to become, with the help of former Nazi chemists, an object of military research and a tool of mind control used by the CIA during the Cold War.
