Diabetes drug could prevent effects of long Covid

In a study published in the journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases, a team of American scientists gave the type 2 diabetes drug metformin to overweight and obese Covid patients. Of the 1,000 people in this Phase 3 clinical trial, half were given the drug at the onset of the disease, and the other half were given a placebo. The result: metformin taken early reduced the risk of developing long-standing Covid by 40%.
