The car still holds its road

The car is still by far the most widely used means of transport in Switzerland: on average, we get into our cars to travel 9400 km every year. We could go on and on with the statistics: three quarters of our shopping trips are less than 5 kilometers; the size of our cars is constantly increasing, but more than one in five households in Switzerland does not own one; the occupancy rate to get to work is only 1.14 persons per vehicle. How can we explain this attachment?
