Breast cancer prevention: report from the heart of a double mastectomy

Claire is a carrier of a mutation in one of her BRCA genes (BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes) that significantly increases her risk of developing breast cancer in the future. In an attempt to mitigate this possibility, she chose to undergo a double mastectomy (removal of the breasts) followed by breast reconstruction.
