Autoimmune diseases: viruses to blame?

Viruses are increasingly being blamed for triggering autoimmune diseases in genetically predisposed individuals. Thus, multiple sclerosis appears to be a rare complication of Epstein Barr virus infection. Similarly, Coxsackie B virus appears to be a major factor in the onset of type 1 diabetes in children. By limiting these viral infections through targeted vaccines, might it be possible to prevent certain autoimmune diseases?
