Aboard the Aquarius

LʹAquarius is a rescue boat chartered by SOS Méditerranée with Médecins sans Frontière teams on board. Since 2016, it has regularly patrolled off the coast of Libya to rescue migrants mounted on makeshift rafts. But the situation has changed. LʹItaly, which until then had welcomed lʹAquarius survivors, has closed its ports. In June, the ship wandered for a week with 629 migrants before being allowed to call at Valencia.
