Youth jihad or the thirst for the absolute

Thirst for the absolute, religious fanaticism, these young people leave everything behind, breaking with their families and their country. They take the risk of dying as martyrs on the battlefield. How can we explain a need for meaning that leads to such radicalization, such hatred of others and of the world?
