The use of violence in politics

"In our societies, where political conflicts are supposed to be settled in the parliamentary arena and the people sʹexpress themselves through the ballot box, what is the place of violence as a means of making demands? In Switzerland, direct democracy, economic prosperity, security and neutrality are supposed to rule out the use of violence. And yet, between 1950 and 2000, the country faced numerous outbreaks of violence.
