Thrombosis and pulmonary embolism

Thrombosis is characterized by the formation of a blood clot, also known as a thrombus, within a blood vessel, leading to obstruction or even occlusion of the vessel concerned. When a thrombus breaks loose, it can cause a life-threatening pulmonary embolism.
