Swiss Council of Religions rejects anti-burqa initiative

The representatives of Switzerlandʹs major religious communities oppose the "Yes to the ban on concealing the face" initiative, submitted to the people on March 7, 2021. They denounce a disproportionate restriction on religious freedom. According to the Swiss Council of Religions, the text is aimed above all at a small group of Muslim women, who would find themselves in a double conflict: the religious requirement to cover their face and the state coercion to show it.
